Meet Janae — Handmade Pottery, Daylesford & Macedon Ranges

I'm Janae Paquin-Bowden, a ceramic artist and flower farmer based in Lyonville, in the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. My studio sits among the flower farm, where clay and flowers shape everything I create.

I studied Visual Arts at Deakin University and La Trobe University, majoring in Ceramics, and later deepened my practice while travelling through Europe. Wandering historic streets, I became captivated by twisted wrought-iron gates, centuries of blue-and-white pottery, and the romance of French urns — traditions that continue to inspire my hand-built vessels today.

Our flower farm began in 2014, after a search for local, organically grown blooms for our own wedding turned into a calling. My husband Chris and I have grown it ever since, and it remains central to both my life and my work. These days I divide my year between the pottery studio and the flower fields, designing vases with sustainable floristry in mind — shaped so flowers can rest and overflow naturally, without the need for floral foam.

My work has been exhibited at Christie's, London, as part of London Craft Week 2025, and featured in Australian Home Beautiful and The Design Files. I've collaborated with Australian lifestyle brand Nancybird, where my ceramic motifs found a new canvas in their Fleurville collection. My pieces are stocked in Australia, the UK and the US, including with stylist and author Willow Crossley.

At its heart, my practice is about slowing down, drawing from history and nature, and creating pieces that bring beauty and meaning into everyday life.
